Since Halloween is coming up, it is a good time to talk Paranormal Romance. I like PRN to have good storytelling, suspense, and romance–like a regular romance that just happens to have a paranormal element. I don’t read the genre on the regular, but every once in a while I need to take a break from my ‘normal’ reading. So, here are my 5 favorite paranormal romance series.
[ezcol_1third][/ezcol_1third] [ezcol_2third_end]Twilight by Stephenie Meyer
Love it or loathe it, I had to include Twilight on this list. I read the entire series start-to-finish in about a week back in 2008. I was an exhausted stay-at-home mom of two babies, and I relished the time I spent reading again after a long hiatus. I have Twilight to thank for getting me back into reading and remembering what it was like to spend time doing something only for me.
(Also, have you read the reimagined Twilight? Should I read it or skip it?)[/ezcol_2third_end]
[/ezcol_1third] [ezcol_2third_end]Sookie Stackhouse by Charlaine Harris
After reading Twilight, I was interested in vampire novels, but I needed them to be a little more ‘spicy’. Enter the Sookie Stackhouse series. It is like Twilight on steroids. While I didn’t love some of the later books, I thought the first 5 were excellent. (Don’t even get me started on the HBO adaptation…)[/ezcol_2third_end]
[/ezcol_1third] [ezcol_2third_end]Harper Connelly by Charlaine Harris
Yes, another series by Charlaine Harris. Harper Connelly has a second sight–she can sense the final location of a person who’s passed and share their very last moment. I liked Harper and Tolliver, as well as the suspense elements of the stories. The romance in this series was non-existant, then slow-burning, but the fourth book made it all worth it.[/ezcol_2third_end]
[/ezcol_1third] [ezcol_2third_end]Charley Davidson by Darynda Jones
I started reading this series last year, and I devoured it. I love the writing, the characters, the suspense, and the humor. Charley is a grim reaper, so she has an advantage when it comes to solving crimes as a private investigator. I love all of the quotes at the beginning of the chapters. They are hilarious and totally make the books.[/ezcol_2third_end]
[/ezcol_1third] [ezcol_2third_end]Experiment in Terror by Karina Halle
I picked up the first book in this series for free as I was browsing Amazon. After that, I was hooked and bought the rest. (See, those free books do make you want to buy the rest of the series). So, Perry has always been a little different and it turns out she can see ghosts. She meets Dex, who is a producer of a low-budget ghost-hunting show, and the adventures begin. While I liked Perry, I loved Dex. He’s such a smartass and I learned a few hilarious insults from his vocabulary along the way. I haven’t read the final book of the series, although I have it on my Kindle. I guess I wasn’t ready for it to end![/ezcol_2third_end]
