#FiveOnFriday is an original, weekly feature on NightOwlReader.com. Each week I talk about favorite books, anticipated reads, and other bookish topics. Enjoy!
There have been so many new romances that I have read and loved recently that I can’t help but recommend some of them to you. They include a rock star, a lawyer, an assassin, a mafia princess, and a couple of romance writers. With that much diversity, hopefully, you will find a book or two to add to your TBR!

[/ezcol_1third][ezcol_2third_end]Idol by Kristen Callihan
Contemporary Romance
My Rating: 4.5 stars
Apparently, I took a long, albeit unintentional, break from rock star romances until I read Idol by Kristen Callihan (you may know that sports romances became my sub-genre of choice recently 🙂 ). Idol has exactly what I look for in any book I read, regardless of genre. The writing is excellent, the characters are interesting, and the banter is amazing. If you enjoyed The Hook Up as much as I did, I can guarantee that you will love Killian and Libby in Idol!

[/ezcol_1third][ezcol_2third_end]All the Rage by T.M. Frazier
Dark Romance
My Rating: 4.5 stars
Sometimes you just need to take a step back from the light and happy romances and take a walk on the darker side. All the Rage fit that bill perfectly! Rage is an emotionally detached assassin and a pretty badass anti-heroine. It has a great story, high adrenaline, and lots of twists. This book is so different from the romances I typically read, but I totally loved it.

[/ezcol_1third][ezcol_2third_end]Hold You Against Me by Skye Warren
Dark Romance/Mafia
My Rating: 4.5 stars
Hold You Against Me is the fourth book in the Stripped series, but it can totally be read as a standalone. The prequel novella, Tough Love, is included with Hold You Against Me, so you get the story in its entirety. This is a second-chance love story of sorts but has Skye Warren’s (slightly sadistic) twist on it. It involves a girl who escaped her mafia father, the boy who helped her, and their reunion after eight years of her thinking he was dead. The entire Stripped series is great, but it’s also one that may push you out of your comfort zone.

[/ezcol_1third][ezcol_2third_end]Charged by Jay Crownover
Contemporary Romance
My Rating: 5 stars
I have been a fan of Jay Crownover since I read Rule, but there was something about Charged that I connected with immediately. This book sucked me in from the dedication page. Avett and Quaid take the bad boy romance and flip it on its head–Avett is the one who is impulsive and Quaid is more controlled. I loved the characters and the story, so it was a big winner for me.

[/ezcol_1third][ezcol_2third_end]Smut by Karina Halle
Contemporary Romance/Comedy
My Rating: 4.5 stars
Smut is a great enemies-to-lovers romance with quirky, nerdy characters and hilarious banter. I loved that it combines several different tropes, but still feels fresh and different. Amanda and Blake are loveable characters and I enjoyed their story a whole heck of a lot. The fact that it also pokes a little fun at the independent publishing industry is an added bonus.
