The Fire Between High and Lo

Review of The Fire Between High and Lo

When Alyssa first meets Logan, their lives couldn’t be more different.  However, as they get to know each other, their shared secrets and pain draws them together—first as friends, then as more.

They are from opposite sides of the tracks, but geography has no bearing on emotional and physical abuse.

The story of Alyssa (High) and Logan (Lo) is heartbreaking, but so emotionally pure, it will bring tears to your eyes several times.

Logan doesn’t love easily (aside from his mother and brother, Kellan), but when he lets Alyssa in, you hope it is enough to take away all of life’s burdens from both of them.

Unfortunately, Logan is haunted by the sins of his parents and can’t seem to escape his destiny.  It drags him under, but Alyssa loves him through it all.  She is his one constant, his North Star of everything good in his life.

In true Brittainy Cherry fashion, the consequences of Logan’s actions are heartbreaking, emotional, and harshly raw.

Her writing is so painfully beautiful and poetic, I highlighted passage after passage as I was reading.

There were tears and times I wanted to scream at my Kindle.  This story will draw you in and keep you reading, but it isn’t an easy or even a fun read.  I promise that if you read until the end, you will be rewarded.

I can’t recommend Brittainy Cherry’s books enough.  She truly is an artist with her beautiful words and stories and characters.

Thank you for the advanced copy of THE FIRE BETWEEN HIGH AND LO by Brittainy C. Cherry.  All opinions are my own.

About Brittainy C. Cherry

Brittainy Cherry has been in love with words since the day she took her first breath. She graduated from Carroll University with a Bachelors Degree in Theatre Arts and a minor in Creative Writing. She loves to take part in writing screenplays, acting, and dancing--poorly of course. Coffee, chai tea, and wine are three things that she thinks every person should partake in! Brittainy lives in Milwaukee, Wisconsin with her family. When she's not running a million errands and crafting stories, she's probably playing with her adorable pets.

The Fire Between High & Lo by Brittainy C. Cherry

There once was a boy, and I loved him.

Logan Francis Silverstone was the complete opposite of me. I danced while he stood still. He was quiet, and I was always running my mouth. He struggled to find a smile while I refused to frown.

The night I saw the darkness that truly lived inside of him, I couldn’t look away.

We were broken together, yet somehow whole. We were wrong together, but always right. We were the stars that burned across the night sky, searching for a wish, praying for better tomorrows.

Until the day I lost him. He threw us away with one hasty decision—a decision that changed us forever.

There once was a boy, and I loved him.

And for a few breaths, a few whispers, a few moments, I think he loved me, too.

  1. I think I just feel in love with this one from the synopsis alone! I just recently bought The Air He Breathes and I didn’t realize it was the start of a series. Now I’m dying to hurry and ready that one so I can pick this one up. Enjoyed your review, Bex!

    1. Hi, Tanya! Thank you so much for your kind comment. Both books are part of the Elements series (so Earth, Air, Fire, and Water), but they are completely standalone stories. Brittainy Cherry’s writing is just beautiful and I loved them both, so I hope you do as well!
