5 More Fantastic Slow Burn Romance Book Recommendations!
Slow-burning romance is one of my favorite kinds of books to read. I have already given all of the reasons I love it in a previous #FiveOnFriday post about slow burns (read that here).
Here are 5 more slow-burning romances for lovers of the long-game romantic payoff!
1. The Hating Game by Sally Thorne
Oh, The Hating Game. This book has gotten a lot of much-deserved hype since it’s release in August. I absolutely devoured this book. I had Audible credits to use and I had been hearing that I needed to read it from my friends, so I decided to give it a go. It is a 12-hour audiobook and I didn’t take my headphones off for more than 5 minutes at a time the entire day. I wasn’t even 30% into the story and I was on Amazon ordering the paperback for my collection.
The best way to describe this book is delightful and delicious–delightful to read and deliciously written. I loved the story, the enemies-to-lovers aspect, the tension and build-up, and the resolution. It was absolutely perfect from start to finish and I can’t recommend it enough!
2. The Wall of Winnipeg and Me by Mariana Zapata
I mentioned another sports romance/slow burn written by Mariana Zapata in my previous #FiveOnFriday (you can read that post here). After Kulti came out, her next sports-related release was The Wall of Winnipeg and Me. Like Kulti, Winnie has a lot of verbal sparring between the main characters, but this is more one-sided–Vanessa is a spit-fire and I loved her. There’s also a grumpy football player that makes it that much more fun. Winnie is a much longer slow-burn than most I have read View Spoiler »(they don’t “do it” until about 97% into the book!) « Hide Spoiler, but I wouldn’t change a thing about it and it never once felt too slow.
3. Stroked Long by Meghan Quinn
After the silliness of the first book in this series, I didn’t know what to expect when I picked up Stroked Long. Needless to say, I was blown away by the depth and the feeling that Meghan Quinn brought to the story and to the characters in this book. It still has Meghan’s signature personality, but it has a much darker storyline that made the ‘burn’ that much sweeter in the end. Loved it!
4. The Debt by Karina Halle
The Debt is a heartbreaking and emotional story, but it also has the elements of a classic slow-burning romance. The characters get to know one another, they share their hopes and fears and their dreams, but there is also have a lovely sexual tension that flows through each of the stages. I loved the story, but my thoughts and feelings stayed with me long after reading it.
5. Beard Science by Penny Reid
Another enemies-to-lovers with a fantastic slow burn. There’s an element of “will they or won’t they?” that stays with you for most of the book, but when the “will they?” turns into “they do!”, it is epic! I loved this book so much and it is now my favorite of the series. Cletus is a fantastic character on his own, but when you add Jennifer to the mix, he’s phenomenal. A must read if I do say so myself (and I do!).
